Full Moon and Five Women is a performance presented on May 23, 2024, at the Isamu Noguchi Room, “Heaven,” at Sogetsu Kaikan—a historic venue in Tokyo, Japan. Set on the night of a full moon, and drawing on the sense of cyclical life it evokes, Honda created an immersive sonic environment.
The first half featured a solo electronics performance. In the second half, she was joined by a group of vocalists—longtime collaborators YoshimiO (OOIOO, Boredoms), Yumiko Ohno (Buffalo Daughter), Miyu Hosoi, Aki Kinoshita (Rhythm of RTA), Emi Helfrich, and Chaki. They performed throughout the space, often moving freely and singing without microphones.
The venue itself—a vast sculptural rock garden—allowed both performers and audience members to inhabit the space fluidly, seated and dispersed across different areas. Some of the sound was transmitted through custom-built speakers developed by Chaki and Aki Kinoshita, known as Yucca Sakti: vibration speakers embedded in driftwood from yucca trees native to the American Southwest, including regions such as Joshua Tree.
